Children spend much of their day moving between classrooms, hostels, sports fields and shared outdoor spaces. Whether they are walking to the dining hall, spending time in their hostel courtyards or gathering beneath a tree with friends after school, these shared spaces are an important part of everyday life and form a connected environment where education and daily life are closely linked.

Life at Otjikondo is shaped by its surroundings. The village-like layout is no coincidence; the school grounds have been carefully designed to foster community, connection and a sense of belonging. Inspired by traditional African settlements, many of the buildings are grouped around courtyards that reflect an African way of life. 

The dining hall is one of the central gathering places at Otjikondo. Shared meals bring the school community together each day, while the integrated stage provides a venue for concerts, performances, celebrations and other events throughout the year. Across the spacious grounds, open grassland, acacia trees and palm trees give Otjikondo its distinctive character, while the school’s colours – dark green and white – are visible throughout the school village.

At Otjikondo buildings are maintained with pride, repairs are carried out promptly and facilities are kept clean, functional and welcoming. Courtyards are tended, trees and plants are cared for and shared spaces are looked after by the whole community. This attention to detail helps children develop a sense of responsibility and respect for their surroundings.

Over the years continued support has allowed the school to grow in response to the needs of its community. New classrooms, sports facilities, clinic, library, music room and solar-powered hot water systems are among the additions that have shaped its development. Today, Otjikondo is a living community shaped by the people who learn, work, and live here together.
