PERFORMANCES AT OTJIKONDO
Discovering Talents on Stage
The annual theatre production is one of the highlights of life at Otjikondo. Every performance brings the school community together, creating moments of excitement, laughter, music and proud smiles as children step onto the stage to tell a story.
Bringing a play to life takes weeks of preparation. Learners rehearse their roles, practise songs, choose costumes and props. Volunteers lead the project by designing the stage, painting backdrops and guiding rehearsals, while music teacher Mr Nutuushi often enriches the performances with his musical arrangements and accompaniment on keyboard, drums and marimba.
Over the years, Otjikondo has presented African stories, Nativity plays, Bible stories and interpretations of classic children’s tales. Costumes, props, and backdrops from previous productions have been carefully preserved, creating a growing collection that inspires each new generation of young performers.
For many children the stage becomes a place to discover confidence, creativity and talents. Taking part in a drama production encourages teamwork, communication, imagination and the courage to perform before an audience. As the curtain falls, the sense of achievement is shared by everyone involved. For the children, it is a chance to shine on stage – for the volunteers, it is the reward of seeing their ideas, encouragement and hard work come to life through the children’s performances.
