CHESS AT OTJIKONDO

Training Strategic Skills

During afternoon activity time, learners gather around the chess boards in a calm and focused atmosphere, thinking several moves ahead as they challenge one another in friendly games. The activity encourages concentration, patience, logical thinking and problem-solving, while teaching children to make thoughtful decisions and learn from every move.

Often led by volunteers, chess also creates opportunities for mentoring, encouragement and shared experiences. While boys are particularly enthusiastic participants, every learner is welcome to discover the game and enjoy the challenge it offers.

Throughout the year, friendly matches and a small chess championship add excitement, giving children the chance to test their skills and celebrate their progress. Becoming Otjikondo’s chess champion is a title earned with pride, but every game teaches valuable lessons in perseverance, respect and fair play.
