Standing at the entrance to Otjikondo School Village, the Church of the Holy Cross is a welcoming landmark. Open to all and non-denominational, it provides a place for worship, quiet reflection and shared celebrations throughout the year. Christian values such as respect, compassion, gratitude and service are an important part of everyday life and help shape the caring community in which learners live and grow.

The church itself reflects the spirit of the community that created it. The striking wooden cross, a distinctive focal point behind the altar, was formed from a tree selected by Reiner Stommel, the wooden benches, crafted by long-time volunteer Paul Möllmann, the remarkable karakul carpet handwoven by Johannes Kudumo and the Madonna by renowned Namibian sculptor Dörte Berner – each tell their own story of generosity, craftsmanship and inspiration.

Perhaps the most distinctive feature is the colourful hand painted glass windows. Based on Bible scenes first drawn by Otjikondo’s children, they fill the church with warm, vibrant light and serve as a lasting reminder that the children themselves have helped shape this special place.

Visitors are warmly invited to attend a Sunday service or special celebration, a most treasured experience and a memory that many carry with them long after their visit.
